T. Paul Mace, M.D., FACS
Dr. Paul Mace was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama in 1987. He received his medical degree from the University of South Alabama in 1991.
Dr. Mace received his General Surgery training at the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana from 1991 to 1997. While at Tulane, Dr. Mace also trained at the nationally renowned Charity Hospital, where he was named the Outstanding Intern for 1991-1992. During his final year of training, Dr. Mace was named Chief Resident of the Tulane Surgery Department for 1996-1997.
After completing his residency, Dr. Mace moved to Gulfport in 1997 to establish his private practice. He was able to utilize his extensive training and experience in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery, and Breast Surgery, to bring the best and most up-to-date treatment to his patients on the Gulf Coast.
Dr. Mace performed the first Laparoscopic Hernia Repairs (groin & abdominal wall), the first Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication (anti-reflux surgery), the first Laparoscopic Colectomies ( colon removal for cancer or infection), the first Laparoscopic SubTotal Colectomy, the first Laparocopic Colostomy and Laparoscopic Colostomy Closure, the first Laparoscopic Appendectomy, the first Laparoscopic Splenectomy (spleen removal), and the first Laparoscopic Dialysis Catheter Placements in Gulfport.
Dr. Mace has a special interest the treatment of breast disease and specifically breast cancer. He works closely with area Oncologists and Plastic Surgeons to provide the most comprehensive and up to date treatment options available. He was the first to offer Nipple Sparring Mastectomies with Immediate Reconstruction and in-office BRCA testing to his patients. He has been trained in the use of the Da Vinci surgical robot and recently completed the 100th single-site surgery at Garden Park Medical Center with the help of the Da Vinci robot. He continues to incorporate new innovations and procedures into his practice to provide "Big-City" care to his patients here on the Gulf coast.
Dr. Mace was Board Certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery in 1998. He was re-certified in 2007 and remains Board Certified until 2019.
Dr. Mace is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Breast Society, the Society of Laparoendoscopic surgeons, the Tulane Surgical Society, the Mississippi Medical Association, the Coast Counties Medical Society, and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Mace resides in Gulfport with his wife, Jennifer (a Gulfport native), and their three children. When not at the hospital, he can usually be found at a local soccer field, baseball field, football field, volleyball court, tennis court, or ballet recital enjoying his children's activities!
